Ann Vela - New Caregiver

Thanksgiving is such a great time to stop and thank the special people in our lives. And National Caregiver Appreciation Month is a great way to remind us to say thank you to the amazing people that give so generously of themselves to the seniors in our community.

Ann Vela of Grand Rapids - I am happy to introduce our new caregiver Ann Vela. Ann has a wonderful confidence inspiring demeanor and generous spirit. She joined our Seniors Helping Seniors team recently and got right to work. Ann is taking care of a widower in his 90’s that recently lost his daughter and primary caregiver. Ann has quickly become one of the favorite caregivers on his team.

Ann joins Seniors Helping Seniors after retiring from two local companies. She retired from Knape & Vogt Mfg in 1995 and from Covenant Village in 2010. During her intervals between companies, she has done private caregiving and developed a specialty in dementia care. Like so many of the caregivers that work with us, she has never settled for doing one thing at a time and has an extensive resume of volunteer experience at God’s Kitchen, Spectrum Butterworth and Forest Hills Fine Arts Center.

Indicative of Ann’s generous spirit, she once drove a van of 15 teenagers on a mission trip to Ensenada, Mexico. She has also built two Habitat for Humanity homes working with an all-female crew. Sounds like she can handle some of our Handyman work requests along with her caregiving. We are excited to have Ann working with us and for the opportunity to get to know her.
