Looking for a Captain

danna gomez September 16, 2021

Join our team in the WALK TO END ALZ - OCT 9

Have you ever considered participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s? The Grand Rapids event is Oct. 9 starting from Ah-Nab-Awen Park downtown at 10am. We would love to have a team participate from Seniors Helping Seniors of W Michigan this year. All we need is someone to be a Captain and some walkers. Nora and I are willing to commit a matching gift equal to the amount the team raises (subject to a practical maximum. :) ).

If you are willing to captain or walk please text the office and we will help get the paperwork completed. 616-234-0190. To learn more about the event, click here.

Covid Precautions are still necessary

danna gomez September 16, 2021

It seems like we have been dealing with this pandemic forever at this point and we are all tired of the stress and adjustments we’ve had to make. Unfortunately, the risks are not over and we are still experiencing a Covid positive rate of more than 10% in Kent County. Here at Managed Seniors Care we have recently started seeing 1 to 2 people (both caregivers and clients) diagnosed with Covid19 each week again.

Just a few reminders:

  • Masks must be worn by all caregivers, regardless of vaccination status.

  • The senior should wear a mask if you are working within 6 feet of them. All appropriate PPE should be worn, if you are performing personal care.

  • Masks must be worn by both caregiver and client inside of a vehicle.

  • A clean apron needs to be worn at every client’s home. You can pick up an apron at the office during regular business hours.

  • Do not go to work if you are experiencing symptoms of fever, cough, diarrhea, vomiting. Call the office immediately. Even though you only answer the exposure questions once a week in ClearCare, you are still expected to comply with the protocol of calling the office anytime you feel sick.

We are also receiving more requests for only vaccinated caregivers to be assigned by our clients. If you have not done so, please text a photo of your vaccination card to the office number 616-234-0190 in order to be included in these work opportunities.

Caregiver Appreciation night - if things stay stable with Covid, we should be able to host our annual Caregiver Appreciation dinner again this year. Please pencil in Nov 9 for dinner with your Managed Senior Care team.

Our Annual AFLAC supplemental insurance event will be coming up soon, along with Open Enrollment for Medicare. Watch for more information to be sent to your email.

Happy Fall everyone - enjoy a Pumpkin Latte for me.

Change to Covid Questionaires

danna gomez June 18, 2021

God is good! It’s an exciting day in Michigan as we rejoice in the progress the state has made in controlling the Covid 19 virus. As you have probably heard, the Governor has lifted all state restrictions effective June 17,2021.

Governor’s Statement

Excerpt from the Governor’s letter: The introduction of highly effective and safe COVID-19 vaccines and the warmer weather have greatly reduced the spread of COVID-19 across the United States. An increasing number and volume of therapeutics are also available, such as monoclonal antibodies, which can help to reduce the severity of COVID-19 cases. Considering the above, and upon the advice of scientific and medical experts, I have concluded that although the COVID-19 pandemic continues to constitute an epidemic in Michigan, certain protective measures and requirements can be lifted at this time. I therefore order that the following Emergency Orders be rescinded effective June 22, 2021, at 12:01 AM: …”

What does this mean to healthcare providers?

As exciting as this is to us personally, professionally we have extra guidelines we have to follow. The CDC guidelines still require that we wear PPE when we are within 6 feet of our clients, even if both of you have been vaccinated.

Covid Questionnaires Changing

While we cannot change the CDC guidelines, MSC has made the decision to reduce the frequency that we ask you about your exposure to Covid. The caregiver questionnaire that is completed during the first shift of the day, has been changed to only be completed one time a week.

The Covid exposure questionnaire that you complete for every client is being turned off.

Neither of these changes represent a change in our policies regarding managing the risk of Covid and your responsibilities. You are required to ask your unvaccinated clients about their potential exposure at each shift and, if you are unvaccinated, you need to notify the office prior to beginning work if you meet any of the exposure conditions.

God has been good to our agency during Covid. We continue to pray for the safety of all of you and our seniors. A key part of staying safe is full vaccination. If you have not advised the office yet of your vaccination, please make sure you do that this week. We do pay you for an hour of your time for going to get it done. If you haven’t yet been vaccinated, we encourage you to consider the value of the vaccination to you and your community.
