Changes to our PTO policy

danna gomez December 27, 2024

To be in alignment with the new Michgian Earned Sick Time policy our Paid Time Off policy has been replaced in its entirety.

Effective Jan. 1, 2025, the following Earned Sick Time policy replaces our Paid Time Off policy detailed on pg 11 & 12 of the Employee Handbook.

  1. Earned sick time for Caregivers is arrued at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked. (per hour rate = .0334).

  2. Earned sick time shall carry over from year to year.

  3. Employee is not permitted to use more than 72 hours of paid earned sick time in a single year.

  4. Earned sick time shall begin to accrue upon commencement of the employee’s employment.

  5. An employee may use accrued earned sick time as it is accrued.

  6. Earned sick time must be used in 1-hour increments. (The impact is that the first hour is earned after 30 hours worked.)

  7. Earned sick time is not paid out at termination.

  8. Earned sick time is paid at the employee's regular pay rate.

  9. Accrued sick time is displayed on the employee's paystub.

While the new policy is called Earned Sick Time, SHS will continue to be generous in its support of this benefit and employees will not be required to provide any details when requesting use of their hours.

All current PTO balances will be transferred to this new benefit and will continue to be available to the employee.

This Earned Sick Time benefit does not alleviate any performance expectations regarding notification to the company of your inability to report to work. Failure to show up for your scheduled shift without advance notice will be subject to corrective action under the Attendance Policy.

Please text the office if you have any questions. Thank you.

Celebrating the Light

danna gomez December 5, 2024

During this 1st week of Advent, we have entered a special time of opportunity to reflect on the gift that is coming. Christmas celebrates Jesus, the Light of the World, coming to a dark and hurting humanity. His birth brought hope to all who felt forgotten and oppressed. As followers of Christ, we’re called to continue His mission by showing love and compassion to others, especially during the holiday season. Acts of generosity, no matter how small, can be powerful ways to bring light to someone’s darkness.

Giving to others, especially those in need, is a tangible way to demonstrate His love. As we serve, we allow God’s light to shine through us, bringing hope to those who may feel discouraged or overlooked. What you do is important in so many ways, not the least of which is how your actions can reflect God’s love. Thank you for all you do.

Winter Driving Tips

danna gomez November 7, 2024

Winter Weather Advisories

This is a good time to review winter driving safety and traveling to client’s homes. First and foremost, we always want you to be safe. Shifts can be rescheduled, if the roads are not safe to drive on. A bit late is always better than having an accident pushing to get to a client’s home.

If you are going to be late, call your Client. You can view your Client’s phone number in the Wellsky app by selecting Client from the Menu, then selecting their Name. Their profile with their address and phone number are displayed. The office will call to check on you if you are more than 20 minutes late, but we ask that you connect with your senior.

If you actually need to reschedule with your Client for another time, then please do that directly. Reminder, all rescheduled shifts must be completed by Saturday of the same week. Text the reschedule information to the office at 616-234-0190 as soon as you and your client have agreed upon it.

I am also re-sharing our annual winter driving safety tips. Take a minute and double check you have all the things you need in your car, before you go out in the snow. Bundle up and be safe. Driving can be frightening and dangerous. Make sure you have all the necessary equipment in your vehicle to arrive safely at your destination.

If you must head outside and the roads may be treacherous, please keep these things in mind.

  • Make certain your tires are properly inflated and have plenty of tread.

  • Keep at least half a tank of fuel in your vehicle at all times.

  • Never warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage.

  • Do not use cruise control when driving on any slippery surface, such as on ice and snow.

Thank You Dinner - Nov 12

danna gomez October 31, 2024

Our Caregivers make this company what it is. From the amazing care you give and the remarkable reputation Seniors Helping Seniors experiences in the community - our caregivers are the foundation we build upon. While we looked for a new celebration idea this year, it seems that the Thank You Dinner is a keeper!

Four Chefs will again cater the dinner, but that’s the only thing the same. Watch for a new menu and some surprising extras that we’ve added to the night to make it even more fun.

Join us on November 12 at 6pm in the Parish Center off Diamond for Dinner. You and one guest are invited to celebrate YOU!

You must RSVP in order for us to make sure we have a place for you.
